This is probably my most asked question- what sewing machine do I buy?? For a basic machine that won’t break the bank, I am partial to Brother machines. There are quite a few on the market that will serve your child well and hopefully for many years. I’ll break down below the top things to look for and some good examples.

Fabric
Where do I buy fabric?
If you are looking to buy fabric in person, check out Joann’s, Hobby Lobby or Walmart. If you are ordering online, Joann’s and Fabric Selection are good choices.
Types of Fabric
Cotton fabric is most versatile for making bags, scrunchies, pants, dresses, shirts, etc. It’s also easiest to sew. That being said, they really prefer the brushed knit. Sometimes called double brushed jersey. It has a buttery soft feel and they love it!
TIP: Fabric Quarters (Fat Quarters) are a nice thing to have around for making small projects.
